Weekend retreats for birthmothers by birthmothers
On Your Feet Foundation holds three weekend retreats for birth mothers every year. The retreats are held at locations in and around the Chicago metro area and are easily accessible by car, bus or train. We are happy to assist you with arranging your transportation to and from the retreat.
With the full cost per participant of $300, OYFF underwrites each retreat to make our retreats accessible for anyone who would like to attend. This enables us to maintain a low registration fee per participant: $100 for Traditional Retreats; $150 for Veteran's Retreats; $300/team for Birth & Adoptive Mom Retreats. This fee includes two nights lodging, meals during the retreat and all materials. (Please note this does not cover transportation to or from the retreat).
Our facilitators, Vicki Twomey and Sheena Kemp have many years of experience in the field of adoption as well as being birthmothers themselves, making On Your Feet's retreats a very valuable and unique experience for our attendees.
2020 RETREAT DATES
April 3-5 Small Gathering Spring Retreat
May 15-17 Veterans Retreat
September 25-27 Traditional Retreat
You are invited to attend a day of story-sharing, support, connection and discovery designed just for you, a birthmother!
PLACING HOME explores the range of experiences individuals and families hold within the adoption community. Members of the adoption triad navigate complicated and uncharted territory relating to family, identity and home. What role does resilience play in their lives? We invite you to witness the joy, grief, and complexity of adoption through an intimate staged reading of stories collected from members of this community.
Following the performance, two of the show’s creators, Katy Finn and Kira Silverstein, will host a workshop* to further explore the themes of the reading and to build connection and community with fellow birth mothers. In this interactive workshop, Katy and Kira create an environment that integrates play and creativity into the learning space. Using theater based exercises and techniques participants will engage in self reflection and group discovery.
The reading and workshop will be followed by dinner at Lou Malnatti's Pizzeria in Evanston.
* Adoption is a deeply complex topic with a myriad of themes that could be unpicked and unpacked during a workshop. Themes that may be explored are; relationships between members of the adoption triad, myths and stigma, choice, adoption language, perspective, privilege, race, reproductive justice, adoption education.
